Growing up near a river means growing up with the “notion of motion”. Water moves, goods move, people move. In the lower Modena plains, a few steps from the Secchia and Panaro rivers, wine also moves, and the wine is Lambrusco. It was the Cavicchioli family that really got it moving back in 1928.Cavicchioli is a Modena family not just on paper but in its heart and soul, and single-handed has driven modern promotion of this unique wine. It all began in San Prospero, in the province of Modena and at the centre of the Po Valley, where land is fertile and rich. In the shadow of Modena’s icons – the cathedral, San Geminiano and the Ghirlandina Tower – many stunning, striking things have developed, and one is certainly the Lambrusco and Lambrusco Cavicchioli.
The vineyards extend close to the farms for 60 hectares in the territory of Sorbara and its surroundings, which is the DOC district, between the Secchia and Panaro rivers. The production cellar and bottling plant have always been in San Prospero, never moving physically while moving ahead to embrace state-of-the-art technology. The ongoing aim is still the same: to produce only Lambrusco of quality and safeguard the spirit that wants to look ahead and enhance an ancient, inherited form of making good wine with refined practices.
